This project formed part of a major renovation and extension to an existing Hamilton home. The new living area opens onto a large outdoor entertaining space beneath an impressive gable roof, creating a strong connection between the indoor and outdoor areas.
The flooring was 130mm Select Grade Blackbutt, completed in two stages to accommodate the kitchen installation. Before the cabinetry was installed, we prepared the flooring beneath the kitchen footprint so the joinery could be fitted cleanly. Once complete, we returned to carry out the final sanding and finishing works across the entire floor.
With large amounts of natural light entering the space, the sanding process needed to be particularly consistent. Open-plan areas like this tend to highlight every detail, so we relied heavily on our planetary sanding systems, including the Power Drive, to refine the floor and achieve a flat, even surface ready for coating.
The floor was finished using Berger-Seidle CeramicStar UltraMatt, a low-sheen coating that works beautifully with Blackbutt and contemporary homes. The finished result feels bright, relaxed and perfectly suited to the scale of the renovation, with the Blackbutt becoming one of the defining features of the space.
